V. Give reasons for the following:

1. The northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere are called land and water hemispheres respectively.

The Northern Hemisphere is called Land Hemisphere and the southern hemisphere is called Water Hemispheres.

Because,

• The continents and oceans are not evenly distributed in the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

• Because of this pattern of land and water distribution, the Northern hemisphere (61% Land) is called Land Hemisphere and theSouthern Hemisphere (81% Water) is called Water Hemisphere.

2. Continental shelf provides good fishing ground

Continental shelf are good fishing ground

Because,

As the continental shelves are shallower enabling sunlight to penetrate through the water and encourages abundant growth of grass, sea weeds and plankton.

Ex: The Grand Banks (Newfoundland)
