1. Convert into cm

a) 5m

1 m = 100cm

5m = 5 x 100 = 500cm

Answer : 5m = 500cm

b) 7m

1 m = 100cm

7m = 7 x 100 = 700cm

Answer : 7m = 700cm

c) 9m

1 m = 100cm

9m = 9x100

= 900cm

Answer : 9m = 900cm

d) 16m

1 m = 100cm

16m = 16 x 100

= 1600cm

Answer : 16m = 1600cm

 

2. Convert into m

a) 6000cm

100cm = 1m

6000cm = 6000 ÷ 100

6000/100 = 60m

Answer : 6000cm = 60m

b) 4000cm

100cm = 1m

4000cm = 4000 ÷ 100

4000 / 10 = 40m

Answer : 4000cm = 40m

c) 13000cm

100cm = 1m

6000cm = 6000÷100

13000 / 100 = 130m

Answer: 13000cm = 130m

d) 17000cm

100cm = 1m

17000cm = 6000÷100

17000 / 100 =170m

Answer: 17000cm = 170m

5. Raju used 13m 25cm ribbon for making his project. If he had bought 20m of ribbon, How much ribbon is left with him?

Total length of ribbon, Raju bought = 20m 00cm

Length of ribbon used                      = 13m 25cm

Ribbon left with Raju                       = 6m 75cm

Answer : Ribbon left with Raju = 6m 75cm

 

6. The distance between bus stand and school is 81m 40cm and the distance between school and temple is 20m 10cm. What is the total distance from bus stand to temple ?

Distance between bus stand and school    = 81m 40cm

Distance between school and temple        = 20m 10cm

Total distance                                          = 101m 50cm

Answer : The total distance from bus stand to school = 101m 50cm

 

7. Arul has a 4 metre long piece of wood. He wants to cut it into 2 equal lengths. How long should each piece be in millimetres?

Length of wood = 4m

Length of wood cut into 2 equal lengths = 4 ÷ 2 = 4/2 = 2m

Length of each piece of wood = 2m

1m = 1000 mm

2m = 2 x 1000 = 2000mm

Answer : Length of each piece of wood in millimeters = 2000mm

 

8. Amudha knows tailoring. She bought 10 metre long cloth. She needs 4 curtains to be stitched. Each curtain's height is 160cm. Would she be able to stitch all curtains? If some cloth is left behind, how much would it be and could you please suggest her to stitch something else?

Height of one curtain          = 160 cm

Height of four curtains       = 160 x 4

                                            = 640 cm

Total length 10m = 10 x 100 cm       = 1000 cm

Length of cloth bought                    = 1000 cm

Length of cloth used                        = 640 cm

Length of cloth left behind              = 360 cm
